Tell Alvey what you are reading!

Students,

Are you reading something amazing right now that you can’t wait to finish?  If you are let us know what it is so that we can read it too.  Perhaps you wished the library had a book or series in the library and they don’t have it currently?  Why not suggest it to Mrs. Ponn.

Happy posting:)

Virginia Readers Choice, Are you reading them?

Have you started reading any of this years Virginia Young Readers (VRC)?  How do you like them?  After you finish each of the books I would really like to know what you thought of each of them.  Post a comment about what you liked or didn’t like about the book.  Try and be specific, take a look at my post and see how I have included some details of the book that tie in with my likes and dislikes in literature.  Have fun reading and don’t forget to keep track of your books in the library at the VRC shelf in the box.

What is a BLOG and how do you comment on a post?

A BLOG is a place on the Internet where you can post or write what you think about a subject or topic.  Usually the student will respond to a teacher’s question and the student’s will write what they think about that question.  Many times this question may be based on some curriculum that the class has been learning about in school recently or something the students might have had to read for a homework assignment.

As with anything in school there are a few rules for posting on a Blog and here are the ones that I expect all students to follow:

  1. Never use your whole name.  Only use your first name or your initials.
  2. Never reveal personal information about you in your comments.
  3. You may not use inappropriate language in a comment.
  4. You should attempt to use correct grammar and spelling at all times.

Online Databases, are you using ours?

Did you know that we have a variety of online databases avaliable for students to use at school and at home.  I particularly like World Book Online Encyclopedia due to the variety of reading levels that it offers the students.  As well as articles it have an extensive selection of photographs as well.  The World Book Discover has a unique tool that will read the text aloud to the reader.  Take a look at some of the other wonderful databases such as Biography Resource Center, Infotrack Junior, and Kids’ Infobits.  You will need a password to login into each of these databases.  Please consult a recent handout that your child has brought home, a past copy of our PTA newsletter or simply call our library office and we will be more than happy to supply you with the passwords.
